We are proud to announce that our PGA Professional Coach, Simon Shepherd, has qualified for the English PGA Championships taking place this week! Simon will be competing in a field of 144 top players in a three-round strokeplay format at Bowood from July 16-18.

We hosted the Croydon Schools Primary Golf Festival where 7 schools battled it out to become borough Champions and qualify through to the London Youth Games. Well done Chipstead Valley on an amazing performance! Thank you to Croydon School Sport Partnerships for the opportunity.

There were plenty of 3's, a few 2's and a lot of high 5's. No visits to the water either!

Coach Alex MacGregor has collaborated with the Golf Foundation on their Unleash Your Drive programme to enhance children's mental well-being through golf, intending to transform mental wellness in schools and include children of various backgrounds. This programme integrates nine mental toughness tools designed to equip children for life's challenges.
Since partnering with the Golf Foundation in 2017, Alex has contributed to the programme's development and testing, resulting in a notable 20% increase in participants' confidence, commitment, and mental toughness!
Sky Sports presenter and President of the Golf Foundation, Nick Dougherty, highlighted the programme at the House of Commons, advocating for its national school integration to foster resilience, confidence, and a passion for golf among children.
Alex's dedication to spreading golf's benefits was evident during a recent session at St James the Great Primary, showcasing his commitment to enriching children's lives through the sport. Check out the video to watch the action unfold!

It was superb to see over 30 players enjoying the fun T-Dog Invitational Parent & Child Challenge on Sunday, braving the cold January golfing conditions with some exceptional scoring, exuberant celebrations and more than a few smiles along the way.
The tournament was created over 10 years ago when young junior member Thomas helped to inspire a new generation of golfers by creating a fun and relaxed golfing format that allowed social golf to mix with friendly competition.
Thomas (aka T-Dog) always makes the annual pilgrimage back to Addington Court to play in the event and was chuffed with how the current crop of juniors performed.
Congratulations to Team Adah, Emily & Eliza for their 3 under winning score!
The much anticipated 2024 edition of the Stephen Doherty Junior Long Drive Championship took place today and it didn't disappoint!
Junior club legend and fans favourite Stephen was there to present the Trophy, 15 years on from his first swings at Addington Court.
The top 10 drivers at the club made it through to the finals day with a group stage, semi final and final providing an exciting afternoon for the players and crowd alike.
Connor 'The Bomber' was crowned the new Champion with a long drive of 252 yards edging out Joshua in the final showdown!
The AC Europa Championship was won by Stephen himself beating Aiden by a single yard. Emmanuel hit the longest drive of the day with a 277 yard screamer, but unfortunately for him, in the group stage!

It was great to see over 40 people turn out for the end of year mens & ladies group events! Thank you to everyone for making it another special year both on and off the course, some fantastic golf and fun social times.

We have had a wonderful few months of golf here at the Junior Academy, with sensational summer camps and joyful juniors. And now we're even more excited for a new term to start!
Each of you will be able to close your eyes and think of an exquisite golfing moment. Usually that will be the perfect shot, often unexpected, that surprises you AND your playing partners.
Michael has been putting in some great work here at Addington Court this season. He set himself a target of breaking 100 and we've developed a personalised plan to help him get there. In our session on Saturday we addressed one of his biggest concerns, his slice. Why he hits it and more importantly, how to fix it.
We made some amazing progress with not only his 7 iron, but with his hybrid and 3 wood too! After his lesson, Michael wasted no time and hit the course again. The result? A fantastic round where he came so close to achieving his ultimate goal of breaking 100!
Keep it up Michael, we can't wait to create the next celebratory post for when you do finally break 100 (and then 90, and then 80...).

After winning the Surrey County Knockout last season they qualify as the Surrey representatives in this year's English Junior County Club Championship taking place this coming week, 15th-17th August.

The junior team had an amazing day down at The Women's Open at Walton Heath this week competing in the final of the Club Skills Challenge. All 6 players played fantastic golf, hitting some spectacular shots and wowing the crowd along the way! They just missed out on the medal positions but what an achievement!
It was great for them to see some of the golfing superstars in the afternoon to inspire them all to future successes.

Chris started the season as a newcomer to the world of golf. While he had played a handful of times before, he wanted to gain more confidence on the course so he could play with his dad and show him a thing or two! We signed him up for an 8-hour lesson package, which he smashed and really showed great progress.
Last week, his dedication paid off as he teed up with his father at Ivoire Golf Club in Ivory Coast. The time spent together on the course turned out to be an immensely enjoyable and memorable occasion for both of them.
We're so happy that you had a great time with your dad, Chris! And we're excited to see your confidence and skills grow even more!

The junior teams at Addington Court finished 1st & 3rd in the England Golf Club Skills Challenge Qualifying and so have made it through to the final at Walton Heath! The Grand Final is being held at the AIG Women's Open this Wednesday 9th August so the kids will get a chance to watch some of the best players in the world after their own tournament has finished.
The 6 station event challenges your long game, short game and putting skills in a team based most under par shoot out! If the qualifying day was fun, the final should create some lifelong memories.

The morning group event went right to the final green with Peter chipping in on the last hole to put his team top of the leaderboard only for Stephen to hole a 30 foot snaker to tie things up! Nice work guys!
Once the post match interviews had been completed it was time for the lunchtime group to put on their show. Martin, Ted & Tim had the touch of Mickelson and the nerves of Tiger to win wire to wire to cap off a memorable day on the course.

It has been great to get some swing data in the senior group sessions on the Flightscope Mevo+ over the past weeks so the group can understand how they personally can get more consistent. Plus, playing on the virtual golf courses has also been an excellent tool in understanding club distances and course management in a friendly but competitive way!
Remember, in this inclement weather the driving range is a great place to visit to keep your golf moving in the right direction. We are the cheapest undercover driving range around so why not come and hit 50 balls to make that coffee in the clubhouse taste even sweeter afterwards! Saturday is moving day at The Masters & the Ladies group certainly didn't disappoint! The Par 3 competition continued from midweek with Anna, Krish & Gloria taking the weekend title with a memorable 2 on the opening hole setting them on their way to victory. With the ground firming up and the greens getting quicker by the day a creative short game is definitely the recipe for success this Easter weekend. Happy Golfing!

Stephen started playing golf just before Christmas and after a few range sessions working on technique, it was time to make the jump onto the course. After a few bits of on-course swing work, we played the par 3 4th hole on the Falconwood. Stephen struck his 6 iron beautifully and finished 18 feet from the hole, leaving him a putt for a birdie 2. Watch Stephen's attempt below. What an effort!
Now the weather is warming up, it's time to get back on the golf course! Personally, one of the many benefits of the warmer weather is getting off the range and doing more lessons on the course, just like Stephen has done.

The Addington Court junior team claimed a historic victory yesterday winning the Surrey Junior Club Team Knockout for the Christies Cup. The team of Emmanuel, Connor and Roy faced a high quality Farleigh outfit at the fantastic Camberly Heath Golf Club.
Right from the start the 3 Addington Court youngsters stamped their authority on the tie with booming drives, relentless iron shots and nerve settling holing out. The trend continued throughout the afternoon and the team came away excited champions.
After finishing runners up last season the boys were determined to go one better this year and with a combination of talent and teamwork they beat Betchworth Park, Cuddington, Effingham and Foxhills before their showcase against Farleigh.
The team will be having an open top buggy parade of the trophy around the Falconwood Course in the coming weeks.
Well done Team, I can't wait to get training started for the National Finals!
Hitting a successful approach shot is tough enough when there’s smooth fairway surrounding the green. Add water to the mix and “tough” can easily morph into “scary”.
You’ve split the fairway on a long par 4 and the green is in sight, albeit a long way away. You know that when you strike your fairway wood well, it has the distance to get you there. But you don’t strike it well very often...
Event 2 of the Junior Series produced some sparkling golf with all 5 teams hitting some quality shots along the way. The big hitting team of William, Komon & Arran ran out deserved winners on the day with their majestic 2 on the par 3 6th clinching them a 1 shot victory! Well played!

We're bringing a bit of extra excitement and entertainment to Addington Court! We're all used to the traditional formats in our weekly competitions, so we've decided to spice things up a bit!

We're looking for a few member volunteers that can help facilitate a weekly playing event for new golfers and/or junior golfers. In return, a lead volunteer will be hosted at next year's BMW Championship at Wentworth for an enjoyable day watching the world's best battle it out!
Each of you will be able to close your eyes and think of an exquisite golfing moment. Usually that will be the perfect shot, often unexpected, that surprises you AND your playing partners.
A fun-filled 10-week journey that will take you from amateur to aficionado. Under expert guidance, you'll cover everything you need to be able to book a round with your mates on the weekend and show them a thing or two.
The Addington Court junior team put on a wonderful display of golf over the weekend to get to their second county final in as many years. Huge improvement from David today with his first lesson using V1 golf analysis and Flightscope Mevo plus launch monitor to work on his swing.
He managed to gain over 50 yards in distance with his 7 iron as a result of changing his clubface at impact by 17 degrees!! His impact improved to within 1 degree of target compared to over 17 degrees to the right at impact at the start of the lesson.
We made simple set up changes with his grip, clubface and forearm alignment, along with some instruction on how to square the club face and use his body during the swing and the results were amazing!

We love the par 18 challenge. It’s a great benchmark of your wedge play and putting. And once we know your score, we’re able to create a much more effective short game improvement plan for you. But what score is the benchmark for you?
There are few golf shots more satisfying than a crisply struck pitch that hops and stops next to the hole. To help you hit more of these shots, we’ll need to take a look at how balanced you are.
Here's where they'll learn to play like their heroes
What a weekend of golf! The unbelievable atmosphere and traditions of the Old Course. Tiger's ovation on his final hole on Friday. Rory holing out from the bunker on 10 on Saturday. Then Cam Smith's magic on and around the greens to bring home the Claret Jug on Sunday. It was everything you could have asked for from a major at the home of golf.
When you need to get up and down, the type of shot you play will depend on your lie and distance from the green. But identifying the shot is only half the job, you’ll also need to choose the right club.
The Tour average for greens hit in regulation is just under 70%. For mid-handicap amateurs, it’s about 20%. When you’re hitting one out of five greens, being able to get up and down in two shots (scramble) is essential.
Golf doesn’t have to be a game played over four or five hours or even 18 or 9 holes. You can have a competition with 3 friends in 45 minutes before or after your day starts or ends. A Par 18 Challenge is a great benchmark to track your greenside skill.

Go on a journey where the grass is short and hazards are distant
Most golfers shooting above 90 are struggling with the ball going right (for right-handers). If that’s you, hitting the ball straighter, or even with a gentle draw, gets you on a better journey.
Shooting below 85 or even near to that number is very difficult if your first move on the downswing takes your hands “outside the line” (that’s a technical term we use to describe the relationship between your swing and the plane).

We see so many golfers, across the skills spectrum, who live with more greenside anxiety and higher scores than they should. But it doesn’t have to be this way, there’s so much fun on offer around the greens.
The average golfer hits 3 to 6 greens in regulation per round. That means up to 15 holes per round will probably require a wedge shot within 40 yards. That’s why it’s good to get into the habit of regularly playing 9 holes of 40-yard golf.

A good deal of golf coaching in the past was very subjective, based on personal opinions and experiences. Luckily with the advancement of technology, many past theories have been disproven.
How many times have you stood over a really long putt and just HOPED to get it close enough to survive? With the right lie angle for your putting stroke and setup, you’ll KNOW you’re getting it close.
Knowing you can comfortably handle long putts takes the pressure off needing to land your ball close to the flag on approach. When you’re able to consistently two-putt from distance, your golf experience is transformed.
Focus on what's important and make a ton more putts
The face angle of your putter at contact has between 80 and 95% influence on the launch direction of your putt. That means a tiny error could cause you to slip by the hole, even with great tempo.
Knowing only your ‘carry’ may help you clear the fairway bunker, but it’ll send you rolling off the back of the green. And knowing only your ‘total distance’ may help you stop your approach shot on the green, but it’ll probably land you in that fairway bunker.

Your “dispersion pattern” is the area that you usually land the ball. We determine this pattern for each club in your bag by taking an average yardage spread across several shots. With this knowledge, club selection and game management becomes a lot easier.

Congratulations to Tamer who has reached one of his long term goals by breaking 90 for the first time last week. After previously being a regular 100+ shooter, Tamer has been having regular lessons with a goal to get that score down in to the 80’s and he achieved this for the first time (of many hopefully!) last week.
It’s important to set yourself goals in sport (and life) to give you something to aim towards and can help with motivation in achieving success. Junior Camps start Tomorrow - Grab the Last Spaces!
There are a few final spaces left on our junior camps next week. Learn how to drive it FAR, hole those winning putts and have some fun playing the golf course!
Whatever their ability level, golf can help children with their physical, mental and emotional development. Among other things, they will learn gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, etiquette and how to safely socialise. Plus, it's fun!
Together we worked on improving his takeaway, and increasing hip rotation through impact. By the end of the session, Alan’s strike had a massive improvement, and this lead to great strides in improving his consistency (you know you're onto something when it starts working on the course straight after the lesson!).

The journey continued yesterday as Addington Court Juniors made it through to the Surrey Knockout final with a handsome semi final victory against Windlesham. The match was played at the testing Foxhills venue and by the looks of it, Connor, Emmanuel & Roy all enjoyed their day out!

Away from the screen, real connections are made on the green
The past 18 months have seen ‘connection’ become more digital than ever before. While that’s enabled many adults to keep working, it’s deprived many children of school, sports and friends. Golf can make up for this with skills development, physical activity and friendship.
Knowledge is power. Power gets you further down the fairway
Some tee boxes are especially scary and intimidating. But you can gain the upper hand with an understanding of your dispersion patterns. This knowledge enables you to adjust your aim and minimise risk, freeing you up to approach a daunting hole with more confidence.
Using your dispersion patterns gives you a much better idea of where to aim to keep your scoring chances as high as possible. You can use dispersion to better manage a new course, and even to score on it as well.
The best decision you can make, over and over again

Dispersion patterns are easy to determine and once you understand them, you’ll know where to aim to minimise your risk of landing in hazards or out of bounds.
Nothing is more frustrating than having to tee it up again after your initial ball goes out of bounds.

The Open proved to be an unbelievable display of golf from some top performers. From Louis dominating the first two days and seemingly not missing a green, Brooks' final day charge and Collin Morikawa's flawless display on Sunday.

Eliminating his slice results in medal win for Simon!
Congratulations to Simon Fisher on his victory in the Ernie Harris Medal last week with a great score of Nett 68.
Simon has been working hard to change his ball flight from a weak slice to a more powerful and straighter ball flight. By working on his alignment out on the course, along with improving his swing path and clubface position through impact, he is now able to hit the ball further and straighter. Well done Simon!

You probably know that the final number on your scorecard has more to do with your performance with a few clubs at the bottom of your bag: your wedges and putter.

No more three-putts. How often do you hit the centre?
On putts over 20 feet, regular golfers don’t strike the putter face at a consistent spot. Some strikes will be towards the toe and some will be nearer the heel. Many golfers overestimate how often they middle it. Here’s a quick and easy way to see for yourself.
Knowing you can comfortably handle long putts takes the pressure off needing to land your ball close to the flag on approach. When you’re able to consistently two-putt from distance, your golf experience is transformed.
Great to see Paul this evening to work some more on his game. He came for his first post lockdown lesson 3 weeks ago and was suffering with the dreaded shanks. After some changes in his set up including weight distraction, grip and release pattern we were able to change the strike location completely and ultimately change his ball flight from weak shanks and slices to the right to powerful draws - see attached YouTube video to see the changes. Needless to say, the lesson had the desired effect and in between his first lesson and tonight’s lesson, he managed to go out in his home club competition and shoot an amazing 44 Stableford points and beat his nearest competitor by 5 strokes! He had 27 points over the front 9 holes, being 2 over gross playing off his (old) handicap of 22. He was immediately cut down 4 shots to an 18 handicap but I think they will have to take that lower after his second post lockdown lesson this evening went even better than his first! Well done Paul, awesome work.

The face angle of your putter at contact has between 80 and 95% influence on the launch direction of your putt. That means a tiny error could cause you to slip by the hole, even with great tempo.

A survey conducted at several golf clubs, revealed that less than 2% of golfers between a 20 and 5 handicap intended to have any coaching in the next 12 months. The attitudes to better golf were also interesting, especially across the age groups. We wonder what the view is at our facility?
Instant improvements nearly result in a hole in one for Linda!
After a successful on course lesson working on her long game yesterday, Linda went out today and almost got herself a hole in one on a 173 yard par 3, securing a birdie 2 having never been on that green in regulation before!! She also managed to reach some of the par 5’s in three shots due to her increased length. Some simple changes in her backswing and follow through (see image attached) have given her the tools needed to strike the ball further and more consistently. Well done Linda, keep up the good work! Yes, the statistics on the major tours now tell us that those with the longest tee shots are making a great living, but you’re not trying to make a living from the game. Most of you are looking for a great social experience and a good or better golfing experience.
Leena holed 2 pitch shots in quick succession from 50 yards during her recent short game lesson. She can't wait to get out on the course and enjoy her wedge play.

Ollie was quick off the mark getting a lesson in on the first day of opening. With some work on his swing, he managed his best ever round last week, and by the looks of his straight hitting in the lesson this week, he will be scoring even lower soon!

“You drive for show, but putt for dough” was a saying that used to have some relevance to tour professionals and the highly competitive. It’s a lot less relevant to them now (as proven by the big-hitters at the top of the money list) but was it ever relevant to the regular golfer?
During this Easter period at Addington Court, we are going to start running some junior holiday programs and some beginner programs.
These junior holiday programs are 3-hour camps, 9 am-12noon, there are spaces still available on Tuesday 6th April, Wednesday 7th April Thursday 8th April as well as, Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th Wednesday 14th These camps cost £45/day and the camps include driving range, short game, and on course tuition and activities and are a really fun way to learn golf.
The beginner program's aim is to get you to the level where you can get on the course on your own and feel confident no matter what shot you're faced with. During the 10 weeks, we'll cover all the main aspects of golf from putting all the way to driving.
The program costs £150 and we are running 3 different options:- -Wednesday 6.30 pm-7.30 pm starting on the 7th April -Thursday 10.30 am-11.30 am starting on the 8th April -Sunday 11.30 am-12.30 pm starting on the 11th April

I hope you are excited as we are about the return of golf on Monday 29th March!
We have been using this time productively here at the academy as myself, Alex and Ben have all completed the SuperSpeed golf certification to offer our players the latest in distance gaining techniques as used by over 700 tour professionals. This training is suitable for all types of golfers, from the beginner through to the more experienced player, juniors through to senior golfers. The training compliments any technical work you are doing on your game.
Long drive contestants have been using Overspeed training for a couple of decades now, and it allows them to produce swing speeds that can top 150 mph (the average PGA Tour Player is around 110 to 120 mph with their drivers). In recent years we have seen the likes of Bryson Dechambeau take driving distances to a new level and distance gaining techniques are a really hot topic in golf right now.
We have the all the necessary SuperSpeed training sticks and speed radars available at the academy for use in one to one training or in a group coaching capacity. Fresh from completing the training certification, we look forward to putting our players through their paces in the same way the tour professionals are seeing huge distance gains. Research shows that on average the 6 week level 1 training results in a 10% swingspeed gain - for every 1mph of swingspeed gain you can achieve over 3 yards extra distance. So for the golfer swinging at 80mph averaging approximately 200 yards can look forward to approximately 8mph swingspeed gain which can unlock over 25 yards in driving distance!

It was great to see James for an on course session last Wednesday working on his swing plane and clubface angles.
His hard work paid off with some instant results with a countback win for him on Saturday with 39 stableford points. His back 9 of Gross 34 (23 points) was enough to secure the victory! Well done James, a good way to end your golfing season.

Whether you’ve just started playing golf, or have lost count of how many years you’ve been playing, there’s always room for improvement. Think back on the past nine months of golf. What part of your game would give you the biggest thrill if you improved it?
Lee was interested in improving his golf and set up a package of lessons with PGA Professional, Alex MacGregor. After an initial lesson and stats from his previous month of golf, Lee set himself some big goals to achieve by the end of the lesson package. He had good knowledge of his game, but really wanted help in reducing his score from his regular 115-120 strokes for 18 holes. The target was set to score 90 and get an official handicap.
Some tee boxes are scary. That’s down to course design, something you can’t control. But with an understanding of your dispersion patterns, you can adjust your aim to minimise risk. That frees you up to approach a daunting hole with more confidence.
Panny, Tony, and Lloyd enjoyed their second session of the Learn to Play Golf program, improving their chipping and learning skills they will take to the course in the coming weeks.
The learn to play program is a little different to a normal golf program as mistakes are encouraged and not to be embarrassed about... It's the quickest way to learn! The aim of the program is to get a novice golfer to be able to play 9 or 18 holes confidently without feeling nervous over any shot.
The program is a 10-week program costing just £150 where learning golf is just as important as enjoying golf. The first session starts on Sunday the 27th of September from 1-2 pm and runs for 10 weeks.

Hopefully, you have enjoyed a summer of playing golf, we've seen a lot people improve throughout the summer and have helped lots of those that have been struggling with consistency.
Jack came to us with the goal to improve his consistency. He was hitting fats, thins, tops and slices. In the session the main focus was trying to improve his strike which was achieved by improving his weight transfer and rotation. Straight after the lesson he went out on the course and "shot 40 and won the round!!"

Hi everyone Firstly, thanks for those who managed to log on and watch the ‘Worlds biggest golf lesson’ on Instagram live on Tuesday, it’s official that this was now a world record event with over 50,000 viewers across the world and thousands of pounds was raised for the NHS. In my latest video, attached below, I give you some drills to practice to help you if you either hit the ground before the ball too often or are prone to thin or topped irons shots.

Hi everyone In this video I will give you a few different ways to check your own iron strike pattern from your home.
In my opinion, strike is the single most important factor in determining how successful your iron shots are for every golfer and for anyone playing above a scratch handicap I would argue that strike consistency can always be improved.
There will be some follow up videos to help anyone struggling with their strike so keep an eye out for those.

After a morning snow shower it was looking bleak for today’s 9 hole event but fortunately the weather took a turn for the better and this afternoons teams ended up enjoying some sunshine in what was some tricky blustery but dry conditions.
The winning teams could not be separated after commendable -1 gross scores for their 9 holes with Dave, Jonathan and Lee getting up and down from the sand to tie Tom and newcomer Joel.
Nearest to the pin on 3rd was Dave Nearest to the pin on 8th Hole was Jonathan Longest drive on 9th Hole was Tom.

Countback decides the first 9 hole event of the year!
One of the closest 9 hole events so far with overcast but dry weather conditions!
Great to see some new faces for this month's event with 9 new participants joining in!! Winning on countback with an excellent -4 gross score resulting in -8 nett was the team of Dave Maskell, Harry Bowyer, Karl Davis and Danny Troy. Unlucky to be pipped on the final Green was the team of Tom Gowers, Andy Wood, Jonathan Naess and Lee Cash.
Nearest the pin on the 3rd was Peter Storey Longest drive on the 6th was our own Tom Gowers Nearest the pin on the 8th hole was Dave Maskell

A great turn out for our Christmas Jumper golf day on Monday with 56 taking part in the on course competition. There were 24 players who took part in the SkyTrak nearest the pin challenge with 72 shots being fired in to the 135 yard flag. The winners were: 1st place. Karl Davis - 8 feet 6 inches 2nd place. Mike Askew - 11 feet 5 inches 3rd place. Ian Wedell - 12 feet 1 inch
Karl has won a 75 minute on course lesson or SkyTrak bag mapping session. Mike has won a 60 minute lesson or SkyTrak Wedge matrix session. Ian has won a sleeve of Srixon golf balls and a Ping ball/hat marker set.
Everyone who took part will receive 10% off any lesson packages or SkyTrak offers whilst those who successfully hit the green will receive 15% off - keep an eye on your email inbox for the offers.
Christmas Jumper Day - Monday 2nd December - food, golf, prizes etc...

Junior 10 week coaching programme starts back up this week
Good afternoon golfers,
Our Autumn junior golf "after school club" starts back up this week.
If you have any children / grandchildren / friends who would be interested, they are all very welcome to attend and we cater for all ability levels.
Session times: 4-8 year olds: Wednesday 4pm, Saturday 9am, Sunday 9am 9-16 year olds: Saturday 10am, Saturday 2pm, Sunday 10am
The programme runs concurrently with the school term, 5 weeks before half term and 5 weeks after. The cost is £85 for the 10 week programme with a 25% sibling discount available for additional children. If they would like a one of session then this is £10 per time. All equipment (if needed) and range balls etc... are provided and sessions last for 60 mins. We cover everything from the long game through to short game and putting as well as some on course sessions.

One of the hottest 9 hole events so far with temperatures soaring in to the 30C's!!
Great to see some new faces for this month's event with 7 new participants joining in!! Due to a great up and down by Junaed on the 7th from under a tree and a long birdie attempt knocked in by Joe on 8th the eventual winners finishing on +1 (36) for the 9 holes was the team of Junaed, Joe and Daniel. A good effort from newcomers David, Ricky and Clive who finished a very respectable 2nd.
Nearest the pin on the 3rd was Jackie Sweet Longest drive on the 4th for the guy's was David Edwards Longest drive on the 4th for the ladies was Freda Dixon Nearest the pin on the 8th hole was Junaed Hussain (followed by a great birdie putt by Joe!)

The eventual winners finishing on level par aided by some great short game chipping and putting was the team of Thomas, Sarah, Freda and Beth who managed to shoot level par for the 9 holes. Danny, Mick and Karl had to settle for second place.

Great turn out for the #Oneshot and 9 hole fun event at the weekend.
Big congratulations to Sam Troy who managed to hole his 40 foot putt attempt and bag himself a 1 year membership - he also took his good putting form to the course holing more putts during the 9 hole event itself!!
The scoring was very good with the winning team of Scott Burnett, Con Sweeney and Orlando Price managing to shoot a 3 under par total just pipping Nick Nunn, Tony Aylott, Andy and Chiew Liew in to second place on 2 under par.
Nearest to the pin on the 3rd hole went to Des Clarke Longest drive on the 6th was Scott Burnett Nearest the pin on the 8th hole was Nick Nunn

Great fun at our 9 Hole Event this afternoon with a mix of Championship Course and Academy course being played. Started with some rain but the sun came out and dried us off. Good mix of the ladies section, men’s vets section, visitor golfers and also a debut on the course for Trevor (impressive 5 on the 5th hole for him). The Academy course ended up a close match with a friendly with Freda holing a downhill putt on the last to half the match. Brenda won nearest to the flag in 2 shots and Karl managed to pip Mick and Brian by a few feet to win the nearest to the flag on the Championship 8th hole. The winning team on the Championship course with a very creditable gross 36 was Brian, Alan and Karl. Congratulations to the prize winners and we hope to see you all at our next event!

Junior Half Term Camps - Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th February
Good afternoon golfers,
Our junior golf camps are back this half term for 2 days on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th February. If you have any children / grandchildren / friends who would be interested, they are all very welcome to attend.
The camps run from 9am to 1pm and include a variety of coaching, skills challenges and competitions on the golf course, short game areas and the driving range; great days for all standards and ages.
The cost is £30 per day with a 25% sibling discount available for additional children. This also includes free golf on our Academy course each afternoon for all participants and their parents/guardians (unaccompanied by staff).
Registration starts at 08:45, all equipment is provided if you don't have your own but please bring a packed lunch along.

FREE Callaway Custom Fitting Day using SkyTrak - Tuesday 22nd January
Dear Golfer
We have just received the brand new Custom Fitting kit from Callaway including the brand new Epic Flash Driver and Rogue Irons. We also have demo Callaway fairway woods and hybrids available so if you are looking to kick off the 2019 golf season by treating yourself with some new equipment then come along and try them here at Addington Court Golf Centre.
With 29 custom shaft options and 10 clubheads available on the irons alone there is something for everyone. We have four driver head options and a dozen shafts to choose from so you can be fitted like the professionals do. We will look at the key components of fitting a club to suit you by tweaking the length, lie angle, shaft flex and type to find the most suitable set up for you. We will be using the Sky Trak launch monitor to track your distances, ball speed, launch angles etc... and will find the perfect match for your swing.
The fitting slots are FREE for Members and Non Members and all standards of golfer are welcome.

Iron Custom Fitting Event - Tuesday 25th September - 1pm - 4pm
Dear Golfer
Join me for your FREE 15 minute slot to take part in our Iron Custom fitting event between 1pm and 4pm on Tuesday 25th September here at Addington Court Golf Centre.
During your 15 minute slot, we will assess the suitability of your current irons vs the Callaway Custom Fitting Cart Iron kit as well as using the Sky Trak launch monitor to trak the ball flight and distances.
We will look at the key components of fitting a club to suit you by tweaking the length, lie angle, shaft flex and type to find the most suitable set up for you.
We will also be running a nearest the pin competition so the player with the most accurate shot on the day will win a prize.

Thank you to all 8 participants who came along to the Callaway XR Speed Event yesterday. We used the Sky Trak launch monitor to see if the Callaway Custom Fit Drivers could outperform their own current drivers.
The improvements were seen in different ways, some wth reduced back spin rates to increase distance - optimum spin rates will vary but usually between 2000 and 3000 rpm will result in optimal distance. Strengthening shaft flex and using lower spinning clubheads helped with this, sometimes as much as 25+ yards in distance gain.
Swingspeeds and ultimately distances were increased with lighter and more flexible club shafts in some cases for the slower swing speeds.
The prize winners in the various categories were:
Most ballspeed gain: Nick Nunn and Chiew Liew with 8 mph speed gains
Longest drive: Andy Liew with a distance of 257 yards - a nice 20 yard gain over his own driver with a clubshaft change from regular to stiff
Biggest distance gain: Brian Earl with 28 yards distance increase, mainly due to reducing his spin rate from over 5000 to 2700 on his best hit producing a lower and longer ball flight.
Each winning a sleeve of Callaway Supersoft golf balls.

Join me for your FREE 15 minute slot to take part in our Callaway XR Driver Speed Event between 2pm and 4pm on Tuesday 28th August here at Addington Court Golf Centre.
During your 15 minute slot, we will use the Sky Trak launch monitor to trak your clubhead speed and shot distances with your own Driver compared to the new Callaway XR and Rogue Drivers to see if we can gain some extra speed and therefore some extra yardage on your drives.
For every mph you can increase your clubhead speed, the distance will increase around 3 yards, so a 10mph jump can result in 30 yards more distance on your drives.
The challenge is open to all levels of golfer from the beginner to the handicap golfer.
Entry is FREE for Members and Non Members.
There will be a prize for the biggest increase in Speed made on the day.

Winners in the Cleveland Short Game Challenge.....
Thank you to the 8 participants in yesterday's Scoring Clinic and Cleveland Short Game Challenge, taking on 9 short game holes along with a nearest to the pin at the end with the Cleveland Demo Wedges.
Winner of the overall prize was Andy Liew with some excellent short game shots on display. Winner of the nearest to the flag was Nick Nunn, managing to get it closest from the tricky approach shot.
We will be holding similar fun events for members and visitors in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled for entry.

Short Game Scoring Challenge sponsored by Cleveland Golf - Tuesday 17th July @ 2:30pm
Dear Golfer
Join me at 2.30pm on Tuesday 17th July here at Addington Court Golf Centre for a Short Game Scoring Challenge sponsored by Cleveland Golf.
I will be running through various short game shots out on our academy golf course, giving you a process to go through to choose the appropriate club for each scenario and tips on how to play the shots to give you the best chance of success.
You will then take part in the Par 18 short game scoring challenge to give you an indication of how good (or bad!) your short game is. The challenge consists of hitting 9 short game shots (from 3 hard, 3 medium and 3 easy locations) with the goal of getting "up and down" from every scenario.
Shots from 50 yards and in will account for approximately half of all the shots you play on the course, therefore improving within this scoring zone is vitality important if you want to improve your overall scores.
The challenge is open to all levels of golfer from the beginner to the handicap golfer. Equipment can be provided at no extra cost if required and Cleveland Demo Clubs will be available for you to try.
Entry is £10 for Non members and completely FREE for Crown Golf Members
There will be some prizes for the winning scores on the day kindly donated by Cleveland Golf.

A great turn out for our Fun Team 9 Hole Golf event last night. Thanks to everyone who played and some great shots and team scores were returned. With an impressive Nett 29 for 9 holes the ladies team won the team prize by 2 shots, helped with a brilliant hole out for an Eagle 2 on the 6th Hole from Beth.
We will be holding some more fun events in the coming months so keep a look out on Facebook or the Club broadcasts to keep up to date.

Another fully booked and successful Full Day Coaching and 9 Holes with a Pro was completed last Thursday in glorious sunshine. Some great fun out on the golf course and some good golf displayed. Both teams did well returning with 5 under par and 4 under scores for the afternoon Team 9 Holes, putting in to practice the work from the morning sessions.

Spin Challenge results are in.... Plus Short Game event date for next month
Thank you to all that took part in the Spin Challenge down at the Club today. We were looking to see how much extra Spin you guys could create in just 10 minutes by changing 3 main factors: Technique, Club and Ball type. Overall there were some really good improvements made. The testing showed that the biggest difference was gained when using the new Cleveland CBX 56 degree wedge combined with the Callaway Chrome Soft Ball. The biggest single nett Spin gain was made by Harry. He saw an improvement from a 12 yard run out with his original clubs and ball down to a 2 yard stopping distance with the Clevelend CBX and Callaway Chrome Soft ball combination.
If anyone who couldn't make it down to the club today is interested in testing for themselves then we have a Cleveland Demo Wedge that can be used at any time, just let me know and you can see if you too can make a big difference to your Spin in to the greens - very handy at this time of year!!

The snow has finally gone! 10 foot putt champs revealed + some other dates for the diary....
Well done to Len and Harry who both joint top scored on our 10 foot putting challenge last month with 5/10 putts holed. To put that in perspective, the average make % on the PGA Tour for 10 foot putts is around 40%. Looking at this weeks stats on the PGA Tour, the great Phil Mickelson only averaged 29.41% hole outs from 10 feet and on amazing greens too!! Do you know your average?

Harry Bowyer! Who managed a 1.50 smash factor drive and even manged to hit his first ever draw of the ball! Congrats to Harry who won himself 20% off a dozen balls.

Back by popular demand! 9 hole playing lesson - Tuesday 19th December @ 1pm

Due to the popularity of the last 9 hole on course lesson being oversubscribed within a couple of hours, i have decided to put a second date in the calendar.
This exclusive on course lesson is limited to only 3 players so be sure to book your place now.
During the 9 hole lesson you will have a chance to ask any questions whether it be on how to play a certain shot, or some golf course strategy and I will be taking on course videos of your golf swings for further analysis.
The lesson will be finished off with hot drinks in the clubhouse and a breakdown of areas for improvement for each player taking a look at the stats from the round.
Cost for the afternoon is £39 per person payable at the clubhouse on arrival and covers everything from the green fee, tuition and hot drink. All for less than the price a usual 60 minute lesson.

Here come the girls! Ladies only group coaching and one to one lesson offers in September
Ladies Only Golf Lessons In September we are looking to welcome new ladies to the academy with some great September offers.
One to one lesson offer - Any lady golfer can get a one to one 60 minute golf lesson with a qualified PGA Professional for a reduced price of £29. Lesson must be taken by the end of September and can be taken on the driving range or out on the golf course.
Group coaching - 3 x 1 hour group taster sessions only £24 (only £8 per session) Come along to our ladies only group coaching guided by a qualified PGA Golf Professional. Each session will take you through the basic fundamentals in a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable environment with some sessions on the driving range mixed with some on course sessions. Have the opportunity to meet fellow golfing newbies during the sessions and relax with a free coffee in the clubhouse following the lesson.
Sessions are available every Wednesday at 10am and Saturdays at 12.30

I will be running through the best techniques to help you escape from the sand and observe you using the techniques, then you will then take part in a bunker challenge to test your new skills.
The lesson/challenge will last for approx 60 mins and take part on our Falconwood Golf Course. This is open to all levels of golfer from the beginner to the handicap golfer. Equipment can be provided at no extra cost if required.

ON COURSE SHORT GAME LESSON & SKILLS CHALLENGE - WEDNESDAY 15th FEBRUARY @ 2PM
Dear Golfer
Join me at 2pm on Wednesday 15th February here at Addington Court Golf Centre for a Short Game Lesson followed by a Par 18 Short Game Challenge. I will be running through various short game shots out on our academy golf course, giving you a process to go through to choose the appropriate club for each scenario and tips on how to play the shots to give you the best chance of success. You will then take part in the Par 18 short game challenge to give you an indication of how good (or bad!) your short game is. The challenge consists of hitting 9 short game shots (from 3 hard, 3 medium and 3 easy locations) with the goal of getting "up and down" from every scenario.
Shots from 50 yards and in will account for approximately half of all the shots you play on the course, therefore improving within this scoring zone is vitality important if you want to improve your overall scores.
The lesson/challenge will last for approx 75 mins and is open to all levels of golfer from the beginner to the handicap golfer. Equipment can be provided at no extra cost if required.
Cost is FREE for our golf club members and £10 for guests/visitors

JOIN ME FOR A 9 HOLE PLAYING LESSON THIS THURSDAY 26TH JANUARY @ 1PM
Join me for 9 holes on our Championship course this Thursday 26th January @ 1pm.
We will be playing in a fun Texas Scramble format so this will suit everyone from the beginner golfer through to the seasoned player. For those that haven't played this format of golf before, it is the most relaxed type of golf you can play as you compete as a team - everyone will tee off on each hole, and we will then choose from one of the shots to play from and will all hit shots from that spot, and so on until we complete the hole (hopefully in a low score!!).
At each stage of the round you will have chance to ask any questions whether it be on how to play a certain shot, or some golf course strategy and I will be taking on course videos of your golf swings to give technical advice on how to improve your game.
The day will be finished off with hot drinks in the clubhouse and a breakdown of areas for improvement for each player.
Cost for the afternoon is £15 payable at the clubhouse on arrival and covers everything from the green fee, tuition and hot drink.

I hope you have all had an enjoyable start to your New Year and have managed to get the clubs out despite the cold weather.
To kick off the new season, we will be hosting various events at the club that you are all invited to come along to.
The first event is to be held in the function room located at the Championship course this SUNDAY 22ND JANUARY FROM 2.30PM - 3.30PM
This is a FREE PUTTING ANALYSIS session where will be using our state of the art Skypro device to test your own putting skills and highlight key areas for improvement so that you can find out how you can hole more putts during the 2017 season.
This is just the first of many fun events that I will be holding regularly so I look forward to seeing you all soon where I hope to be able to help you enjoy your golf more this year.
